Training Review - Week 31 - July 25 to 31

Tough start to the week with a triple session on Monday. Running in to work was forced on me by the train strikes and having left a bike at work on Friday. Then after work I had to bike home with a stop at the dentist. And then a trip to swimming in the evening. Swimming form, and actually my form in general, seems to be coming back. Not quite top form but definitely not the fatigued struggles of the last few weeks.

Tuesday I rode in to work but then I took the train home to give my legs a bit of a rest before the evening TT. As this one is quite local to me I decided to ride the 6 miles out to the start as a warm-up, then smashed the TT in by far my best performance of the season. I then hung around for a while as this is also the only TT that comes with pizza and cakes. But it was going to rain so I had to leave in order to try and get home before it got too wet for the TT bike.

Wednesday I had planned to run in to work and then ride home but my legs after the TT were not having any of it, so I took the train in and then rode home. And even by that point I was really struggling.

Thursday we were going to Jason Bourne in the evening so I ran in to the office. That was still a struggle. My form may be returning but my recovery after races is not improving. Although not having a proper chance to recover is probably an influencing factor.

Friday I took the bike both ways. In the morning I got light traffic and a string of green lights and was under 24 minutes. By far my quickest commute but that was nothing to do with me, just the luck of the lights, apart from a quick sprint as I tried to move up a Strava leaderboard and managed to steal the KOM. The route home was almost the opposite as I caught a lot of lights and pushed my effort levels a bit and took a fairly average 32 minutes.

Saturday I ran to the pool and then did a steady swim session.

Sunday I started by clearing up a lot of the sessions I have been skipping recently. I went through a full set of stretching, yoga, core and weights sessions before going out for an easy run around Dyce.

Definitely an improvement on my recent fatigue problems this week. And something of a return to form on the bike with a respectable TT performance.
