Monday I did my yoga in the morning and then got out on the bike at lunchtime for an easy loop to try and clear my legs out from Sunday. Nothing too strenuous but with a decent lump over Kirkhill on the way back. Then another club swim set of open water skills in a pool.
Tuesday morning I took Dexter out for a very lazy lap around Dyce. It was very warm and he was overheating a bit so it was little more than a jog. It did help to clear my legs a little before racing in the evening. I did a yoga session late in the afternoon before heading across to the Time Trial. This route was the first of two that I got lost on last year so I don't have a comparative time to chase.
I didn't really expect much. Again I am too tired from Sunday's race and having trained twice on Monday and a run on Tuesday morning I already knew I would be beyond my limits for a quality performance.
Wednesday I had a massage before I went for my first open water swim of the year. New wetsuit is definitely a bit tighter than the old one. Can't tell if it is any faster though. Was too tired to really race a lap and test it out. I also did a couple of laps of easy running before hand just to get in a second session for the day.
Thursday I did the yoga session that I had skipped and then took Dexter out for an easy run in the sun. I have been lazy about running pace this week and this was no exception. I want to blame Dexter but that is a bit unfair. Putting 3 races in to 7 days and not wanting to do reps 2 hours after a massage have had much more impact on my pace this week than he has.
Friday I wanted to do a complete taper for Saturday's race but I also didn't want to have a total day off in such great weather, so after my yoga session I took the bike out for an easy half hour. Then in the afternoon I had an interview to go to.
Saturday I took the train through to Inverness to race the North District Athletics Championships. That will get a post to itself.
Sunday I planned to go out with the Kintore Sunday group as they had a beginner session planned. I thought my legs might manage an hour or two of that as a recovery ride after Saturday. Unfortunately a lack of beginners actually meant we went at a fairly decent pace straight from the off. I felt fairly good for the first hour, then started to suffer a little in the second hour and struggled from the 2 hour mark to get round just over 40 miles in 2 hours 30.
I then finished off the week with a final yoga session and the missing core session.
Another good week. Decent numbers, some ok-but-not-great races, another North Championship title, first open water swim of the year,...
