Training Review - Week 10 - Feb 29 to Mar 6

Swimming was another session that didn't really suit me but this week there were a lot of people missing so I managed to get half a lane to myself and did my own thing instead. Next week is going to be a proper 20-minute time trial so this week I took the opportunity to do a solo T20 test with no prep, no suit, etc. I went through 1,100m right on the time limit. That is about 50m down on what I expect to do next week with better prep.

Tuesday I was told that the turbo noise was not compatible with her headache so I would have to go out for a run instead. That started badly, and then after a few stops for kidney pains I had to call it a day and phone for a lift.

Wednesday I settled for yoga and the turbo session that I bumped from Tuesday. I did chunks of the set yoga session but had occasional attacks of cramp and had to modify some sections to deal with them. The 30-minute turbo then went surprisingly well and I accidentally clocked a high speed turbo session with no kidney problems at all.

My new race cycling shoes arrived to replace the set I broke last week, but they are a size too small, so they need to be returned and replaced.

Thursday I went for an easy run which turned into an accidental progression run as I warmed up.

Friday I kept my planned rest day and we went to see London has Fallen. Hilarious, although I am not sure it was meant to be.

Saturday I got up early to get an easy swim in, 4x400m easy. Somehow these are getting slower every time I do the same set. Then I decided on an easy brick to cut into the size of my Sunday ride and finish off my run miles late in the afternoon with an easy lap round Dyce.

Sunday I planned a couple of hours on the turbo. Survived the first hour but that was all I could manage.

This time last year I was made redundant and the miles were suddenly much easier to come by for a few months. So if I start to fall away from last year that is no huge surprise. That isn't really what is hurting my numbers though. Running and swimming are way ahead of previous years. Biking is way behind previous years and way behind my target. I can try and blame the weather and my kidney for some of those but the reality is that I am just not doing enough on the bike.
